Working the Land


Agriculture has always played an important role to McMinn County and East Tennessee. This exhibit depicts this important part of our local history, including Mayfield Dairy and other forms of agriculture, complete with large-scale farming equipment. This exhibit houses a large collection of woodworking tools from the early 1800's through 1900.
From Furs to Factories


Industry in McMinn County includes everything from banking to stoves and furniture making. The exhibit contains many artifacts, from the finished products to the components and machinery used in these separate industrial settings.The railroad exhibit gives visitors a glimpse of many railroad artifacts from the local area, including lights, blueprints, and much more.
White Collar McMinn County
This exhibit tells the story of people who helped build the history of McMinn County, including rural doctors and dentists, lawyers, and general store owners. The Rural Doctors exhibit includes artifacts such as medical instruments, medications, books, prosthetics, clothing, and photographs. The General Store represents the rural Southern general store, complete with merchandise, community phone, register, and checkerboard. The Dentistry exhibit focuses on early dentistry in McMinn County, with highlights including furniture, appliances, and a foot-operated drill. The Attorney’s Office gives a window into the early law offices of our area, complete with desk, clothing, law books, and more.

This exhibit houses a wide variety of folk art from local artists, including painting, carvings, rug hooking, weaving, and much more.
